Rocío Ávalos

Director, People & Operations

Rocio ensures HIP runs smoothly. She enjoys solving complex puzzles, building strong teams and creating an empowering environment in which they can thrive. Her experience ranges from nonprofit management and community organizing and campaigning to event planning with a common thread in operations and project management. As a former Senior Program Analyst at the State Bar of California’s Office of Access & Inclusion, she managed grants for over 100 legal aid organizations, coordinated disaster legal services, and led policy initiatives to increase access to justice for low-income Californians. Prior nonprofit experience includes almost a decade at Amnesty International. Rocio received a B.A. in Political Science and Legal Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
Outside of operations, Rocio enjoys traveling and exploring the outdoors—especially backpacking among redwoods and mountains.
