Borealis Philanthropy Awards HIP Funding to Advance Racial Equity in Philanthropy
Hispanics in Philanthropy is pleased to announce that it has been included in the inaugural grantee cohort of Borealis Philanthropy‘s Racial Equity in Philanthropy (REP) Fund, with support over the next 3 years. We will use this funding to advance intersectional racial equity in the field of philanthropy, with an emphasis on advancing equity for Latinos. Our efforts will include shifting the narrative around Latino communities, including Afro-Latinos, through targeted communications strategies; providing support and building meaningful collaborations among our network of Latino foundation trustees; and promoting internal learning at HIP around racial equity.
The Fund recognizes there is still progress to be made within the philanthropic sector in terms of directing resources towards ending racial disparities. The vision of the REP Fund is to build the enduring capacity of the field of philanthropy to advance racial equity and make grantmaking strategies that prioritize structural change the norm. The Fund’s first step in achieving this goal is investing in philanthropic serving organizations, which offer research, peer learning opportunities, and best practices to the philanthropic sector, and have the reach and influence to change policies and practices within the sector.
The REP Fund builds upon the work of the Kellogg Foundation’s Strong and Effective Sector portfolio and the Ford Foundation’s Philanthropy portfolio with its own grantmaking strategy. The Fund centers race while also looking at how other aspects of identity, such as gender, sexual orientation, immigration status, class, and ability, further shape unique experiences of racism.
The REP Fund is a donor collaborative based at Borealis Philanthropy and currently includes support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Ford Foundation.
