Statement on ICE Raids and Military Escalation in Los Angeles: Our Communities are Not War Zones
At HIP, we stand in solidarity with the Los Angeles immigrant community. We’re alarmed and outraged by the violent escalation taking place in Los Angeles.
The arrest of SEIU President David Huerta and detention of 44 others (as of the time of writing) are not isolated incidents. They are part of a broader, calculated campaign of fear: people being abducted at work, parents separated from their children, entire families being disrupted. Even elected officials have been denied access to detention centers, underscoring the lack of transparency and accountability in these operations.
What began as a movement of peaceful resistance was met with a militarized response. This is not about safety or public order. This is about power and intimidation.
HIP is prepared to mobilize funds and work with our partners on the ground to support the community and mutual aid efforts. HIP’s work is rooted in the belief that Latine communities have the vision, resilience, and leadership to shape a just future. What we’re seeing in Los Angeles is the opposite of justice. It’s a violation of our shared humanity.
Philanthropy needs to meet this moment with moral clarity and real resources. We’re calling for urgent, sustained investment in Latine- and immigrant-led organizations that are already on the frontlines: defending rights, providing sanctuary, delivering trauma-informed care, and building real safety for our communities. If philanthropy is serious about justice, it must show up now—with resources, not just rhetoric.
Our communities are not war zones or scapegoats for political theater. They are the heart of a future worth building together.
If you are ready to put resources into action, partner with HIP. We are mobilizing funding directly to Latine- and immigrant-led organizations providing legal support, community protection, and healing. Contact us today to ensure your philanthropy meets this moment with urgency, clarity, and impact.
