OAK Foundation Logologo
(Mexico City, Mexico) July 6, 2016 – Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is pleased to announce an important expansion of its partnership with the Oak Foundation (Oak) to advance the shared goal of promoting women’s human rights in Mexico. HIP will support Oak’s longstanding work in Mexico by strategically growing Oak’s Issues Affecting Women Program (IAWP), which focuses on eradicating human trafficking and exploitation, combating domestic violence and supporting women’s rights movement building.
This $2.8 million (USD) alliance will support a portfolio of nonprofit organizations expert in IAWP thematic issues through grantmaking, capacity building and increasing cross-sector awareness in order to bring more voices and funds to IAWP’s causes. Through its transnational network of diverse partners and ample grantmaking experience, HIP will strategically guide and grow IAWP in order to work towards long-term systemic change for women in the region. IAWP complements HIP’s women’s rights portfolio, which applies a gender perspective in advancing labor rights in Mexico. This expanded partnership is an important step forward for HIP and Oak in their joint mission to bring lasting social change and to tackle root causes of inequality for women in the region. Hispanics in Philanthropy is a nonprofit network of more than 600 institutional and individual members that was founded over 30 years ago. Its mission is to strengthen Latino leadership, voice, and equity, throughout the U.S. and Latin America, with a specific focus on the formal philanthropic sector. This partnership is closely aligned with HIP’s vision: that Latino equity, participation, and inclusion are essential for widely shared democracy and prosperity in the United States and the Americas. Oak Foundation commits its resources to address issues of global, social and environmental concern, particularly those that have a major impact on the lives of the disadvantaged. With offices in Europe, Africa, India and North America, Oak makes grants to organizations in approximately 40 countries worldwide. Its Issues Affecting Women Program (IAWP) seeks to contribute to a world in which women are safe from violence and are free to exercise their full and equal human rights.
