Washington, D.C.—Today, Ana Marie Argilagos, President and CEO of Hispanics in Philanthropy, issued the following statement on the passing of former President George H. W. Bush:
“This week, the nation is mourning the passing of President George Herbert Walker Bush. He embodied the promise of America and he served our country with honor, integrity, and distinction.
“As a lifelong public servant, he took great pride in being a volunteer leader, long before he became active in politics. He understood the power of giving as a vehicle to bring change, and through the Points of Light initiative, he built a legacy that has inspired a new generation of volunteerism.
“During this politically complex time in our country, I think it is important for our national leaders to remember President Bush’s wise counsel: “‘America is never wholly herself unless she is engaged in high moral principle. We as a people have such a purpose today. It is to make kinder the face of the nation and gentler the face of the world.’”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bush family during this difficult time.”
