HIP Statement on the Passing of Congressman Ed Pastor
Washington, D.C.—Today, Ana Marie Argilagos, President and CEO of Hispanics in Philanthropy, issued the following statement on the passing of former Congressman Ed Pastor:
“Today Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) mourns the passing of Congressman Ed Pastor of Arizona. He was a quiet but influential political giant, who dedicated his career to protecting the civil rights of all Americans and inspired a new generation to follow his footsteps of public service.
“I personally feel indebted to Congressman Pastor for all that he has done and for being so instrumental in my life. As a Latina single mother, I was able to attend the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University on a full scholarship through the Ed Pastor Scholarship for Public Service. This was life-changing for me, my family, and my community and I will forever be grateful for this opportunity. He understood that by using philanthropy as a vehicle, a community could strengthen its leadership, equity and voice.
“The thoughts and prayers of the HIP community are with his wife Verma, his daughters, Yvonne and Laura, and the rest of his family during this difficult time.”
