HIP to Double Donations to Leading Nonprofits Mobilizing the Latino Vote on National Voter Registration Day
Latinos Give their Vote campaign calls on support for Latino voter initiatives in response to underfunding during Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is pleased to announce it has released $10,000 in matching funds to incentivize and double donations to nonprofits working to drive the Latino vote in the U.S. this fall. On September 27, all donations made to Latino Get Out the Vote (GOTV) initiatives on latinosgivetheirvote.org will be matched by HIP, dollar for dollar, until the $10,000 pool of funds has been exhausted. HIP launched this crowdfunding competition in response to the underfunding of Latino GOTV initiatives, and to increase the visibility and funding of grassroots organizations driving online and on-the-ground Latino voter registration. This campaign is part of Latinos Give their Vote, a digital advocacy campaign to amplify the voice of the Latino GOTV movement and build a collective narrative about the importance of the Latino vote in the upcoming U.S. election during Hispanic Heritage Month. The campaign will run from September 15 to October 15 on www.latinosgivetheirvote.org and on social media platforms through #LatinosGiveTheirVote. According to the Pew Research Center, 27.3 million Latino voters will be eligible to vote in the upcoming 2016 elections—44 percent of them are millennials. That’s 11.9 percent of all eligible voters. In addition, according to an analysis by Latino Decisions, presidential candidates need up to 47 percent of the Latino vote to win the elections. This crowdfunding campaign demonstrates HIP’s commitment to driving social investment and public commitment to supporting leading civic engagement organizations in the U.S.working to inform and educate Latinos about the importance of registering to vote and and catalyze participation in the upcoming elections. “We are pleased to announce this opportunity and drive donations to Latino-serving nonprofits that are mobilizing voter registration for the upcoming elections,” said Diana Campoamor, President of HIP. “Young Latinos are shifting the sociopolitical landscape and their vote is crucial to the future of this country. By matching $10,000 in donations to crowdfunding campaigns as part of Latinos Give their Vote, we are fostering support and community around the vital work led by organizations informing Latino millennials about their voter rights for the upcoming elections.” To learn more about Latinos Give their Vote and matching funds rules, visit www.latinosgivetheirvote.org.
