Honoring Dr. Beatriz Solis

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved friend, mentor, board member, philanthropist, health care advocate, and fearless leader in our community, Dr. Beatriz Solis. We were fortunate to have Dr. Beatriz Solis serve on HIP’s board for 6 years where she was a trusted advisor and mentor to our staff. Dr. Solis served as the Director of Healthy Communities for the California Endowment. Through her career, she focused on advancing the vision and strategic direction of the foundation’s Building Healthy Communities: California Living 2.0 initiative. Her professional experience includes serving as the director of Cultural and Linguistic Services for L.A. Care Health Plan where she was responsible for developing one of the first departments dedicated to cultural and linguistic issues in a managed care setting. In addition, she was a research associate for the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research and received her master’s and a doctorate in Public Health from UCLA’s School of Public Health. “Dr. Solis was utterly genuine and authentic in everything she did. She led with her values and used them as a moral compass with no distinction between how she lived her life and her life’s work,” said HIP’s Board Chair, Mary Skelton Roberts. “She was a leader with integrity and committed her life to serving the community. She exemplified this by serving as a fierce advocate for women, for Latinos, and for Hispanics in Philanthropy.” Her love for our community was effusive and endless. Her loss has left a void in our lives, our sector, and our work. The HIP familia is stunned but we will continue our work to strengthen Latino leadership, influence and equity and doing so while honoring her legacy to move forward with an unwavering vision on social justice, access, and equity. To her family, we wish you the comfort in the strength she gave you, the love she wraps your heart with, and her healing power to get you through this very difficult time. If you’d like to join us in honoring her work, Dr. Solis asked for donations to be sent to www.godiscoverylab.com. There you will find a donation link at the bottom of the page.
